About our Breeding Program
TEMPERAMENT - HEALTH - STRUCTURE
At RWDoxies we breed on an occasional basis, primarily for our own program. We may have a litter of Long-Haired Miniature Dachshunds on the ground, once a year, or once every two years.
Regardless, we know that they will truly capture the heart of dog lovers and breed enthusiasts alike, as we carefully select our breeding pairs from health tested, registered, and titled parents.Â
Our puppies are all CKC registered and undergo comprehensive health and temperament evaluations.
Our focus is Quality not Quantity.Â
WHAT SETS US APART
Health Tested Parents
All parents undergo health and genetic testing through UC Davis and Animal Genetics. These results ae uploaded to OFA where each parent receives their own OFA CHIC number prior to breeding. Healthy parents make healthy puppies.
Pregnancy & Whelping Care
Our Studs and Dams receive the best care pre-breeding, during pregnancy, and post-whelping. From pre-breeding health screening and health tests. To healthy diets, daily exercise, and weekly/daily grooming sessions. We have a 24/hr on-call veterinary for any issues that may arise during whelping to ensure mama and puppies receive the best care always.
ENS & ESI
ENS (early neurological stimulation) and ESI (early scent introduction) start at 3 days old. ENS is a series of specific exercises and experiences designed to enhance the neurological development of puppies. ESI is a technique used to expose puppies to a variety of scents during their critical development period. Aimed at enhancing a puppy's olfactory senses. Remember, Dachshunds are Scent hounds.
Curriculum
We initiate the socialization process for our puppies by exposing them to a variety of sounds, textures, visuals, and climbing surfaces. We challenge them daily with tasks to enhance their nerve strength, boost confidence, and develop problem-solving skills. Our goal is to provide a nurturing & stimulating environment during the critical first 12weeks of their lives.
Temperament Testing
On day 49, we perform a Puppy Aptitude test for each puppy. This test focuses on key temperament traits to ensure that you receive a puppy that aligns with your lifestyle and needs while also respecting the puppy's unique personality.
10 Step Handling
Helps to improve puppies' ability to adapt to various types of touch, handling, and sensation. Puppy Massage is started daily, around week 3 with pressure increasing each week. These include the back, eyes, ears, paws, tummies, tails, nails, teeth, and inside of their mouths, and around their colors.
Crate Training
Crate training starts at 4 weeks old. Puppies will experience crate training as a group as part of our curriculum and learn that their crate is a safe & secure place for them. As they age, they will be introduced to individual crate time. Crate training can be an effective tool for fostering a well-behaved, confident, and secure puppy.
Potty Training
Your puppy will start potty training at 3 weeks and will be well on their way to mastering this when they arrive in your home. We will provide a potty training schedule to help keep your puppy on track in their new home.
Socialization
We do everything to ensure your puppies are well-socialized and have the best start possible. From weekly car rides with car washes, and drive thru's, to playdates with children of all ages, & shopping at stores like Winners & Peavy Mart. This all is in addition to our daily curriculum which also includes daily desensitization sessions to noises they will experience at home and in the world.
